About this Event
Fly tying is a hobby that dates back before fishing as we know it. Fly fishing anglers have developed a keen sense of how to read the streams and how to “match the hatch”. A skill that is handy for any angler to know is how to tie your own flies (they become expensive when learning).
Participants will learn:
- Different styles and types of flies
- Equipment needed to tie flies
- How to create flies to take home
This is a beginner course and all materials will be provided.
It might be handy to bring a small container or envelope to bring your flies home in. They are small and have a sharp hook!
Directions to Sportsman's Alliance of Maine - Outdoor Learning Center
The Outdoor Center (2273 N. Belfast Ave) is not located at the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine Headquarters (205 Church St). If you're coming from Vassalboro, instead of turning down Church St at the light, drive past it and stay on N Belfast Ave (Rt 3/9/202) heading Northeast towards Riverside Dr. It will be about half a mile on the right. (see event map).
If you're coming the opposite way, the Outdoor Center will be on your left, a few houses before the light and gas station.
There will be a sandwich board sign with the MDIFW logo at the entrance on Rt 3. Please park in one of the two upper lots near the red gate. Do not drive past the registration station tent as it leads to a dead end. Check in at the registration station at the entrance, and there will be a short walk to the building from the parking lot.
