Smart(er)phone Photography consists of three weekly in-person sessions held at our Riverside Drive location near Upper Arlington, plus an instructor-led group outing.
No boring lectures here; classes are small and limited to only ten seats to encourage interaction, clarify the material, and address questions. Oh yeah, and you’ll have a great time. Read student reviews.

OVERVIEW
Smartphones can capture incredible imagery and immersive video that rival “real” cameras, if you know what you’re doing. Learn how to use the “camera that’s always with you” to record your world in fresh and exciting ways with the NEW Smartphone Photography class for iPhone and Android devices.
Beyond a typical overview of using the camera app, this class goes deeper, showing you how to create more engaging pictures through practical composition and image editing. Although smartphones make the process of picture-taking easier, you still need to know how to make a good photograph.
Classes run QUARTERLY throughout the year. If something comes up and you can’t make a session, you can jump into an upcoming class and catch the same material.

SMART(ER)PHONE PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS OUTLINE
Session 1: CAMERA
CAMERA takes you far beyond the basics of your phone’s camera app, revealing powerful tools you may not know exist—and how to use them creatively. Whether you're using an iPhone or Android device, this session breaks down each native feature with clear explanations and suggested settings to help you capture better, more compelling photos.
Session 2: PICTURE
Many people feel let down when a new phone doesn't instantly boost their photography skills—and for good reason. PICTURE focuses on understanding light and composition, offering clear, practical guidance to help you take sharp, well-balanced, and compelling photos—whether you're capturing portraits, landscapes, buildings, or everyday life.
Session 3: EDIT
A photo straight from your camera is only the first step. In EDIT, you’ll discover easy-to-learn editing techniques that take your smartphone images further. Using built-in and third-party apps, this session demonstrates how to enhance brightness, color, sharpness, and more, resulting in a polished and professional look for each photo.
Session 4: OUTING
The best way to improve is by doing. Alongside a variety of at-home exercises, you’ll also take your skills into the field—literally—by practicing with your instructor and classmates at real locations around Columbus. Your smartphone is a capable camera, and this class treats it as such. As a bonus, you’re invited to join any future student outing free of charge.
