Master the art of precise joinery while creating custom picture frames that showcase your favorite memories in this two-part series.
About this Event

This two-part workshop teaches essential woodworking skills through a rewarding project you'll be proud to display. You will build two custom picture frames (one 8x10 and one 5x7).

Through this class, you will learn accurate miter cutting techniques, how to create strong and invisible corner joints, how to use a miter saw and hand tools safely, sanding and surface preparation, routing decorative profiles, and much more. You will also learn how making picture frames teaches precision; every cut must be exact for perfect corners. These skills translate directly to furniture making, trim work, and countless other woodworking projects.

Class Structure:

  1. Design selection - choose from classic profiles or create your own
  2. Cutting and fitting - master the miter joint
  3. Assembly and finishing - complete your frames ready to hang

Experience Level: Beginner-friendly - great introduction to precision woodworking.

What's Included: All hardwood materials, glass, backing boards, hanging hardware, andfinishing supplies.

This class is over the course of two days (Wednesday, September 17 from 5-7pm & Saturday, September 20 from 4-6pm). Please be sure you can make it to both of the class periods and register only for the first date listed, September 17.

About the instrcutor, Alok Grover: Alok believes there’s something special about creating with your own two hands. With a love for woodworking that started as a hobby, he has turned simple pieces of wood into lasting treasures for family and friends. In this class, Alok will share that same joy with you—guiding you step-by-step as you craft your own picture frame. Along the way, you’ll learn tips, tricks, and finishing touches that make each frame unique, just like the memories it will hold.

Whether you’re brand-new to woodworking or already handy with tools, you’ll leave with a beautiful frame and the warm satisfaction of saying, “I made this.”

Our sliding scale for classes helps to reduce barriers for participation while retaining sufficient income for Seattle REconomy, which owns and operates the NE Seattle and Shoreline tool libraries. Please choose the level that best fits your family’s income.
