Bringing together senior HR and people leaders from across Sussex, we’ll uncover how leadership is evolving — from developing future skills and leading through uncertainty, to balancing technology with the human touch.

Rose Read, Chief People & Culture Officer at Brighton & Hove Albion FC

Rose has been Head of People & Culture at Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club for the past 15 years, having joined as the club prepared to move to the American Express Stadium. In June 2025, Rose was appointed to the club’s main Board, becoming the first woman in the club’s history to make this transition in an executive capacity.

With over 25 years’ experience in Human Resources, Rose has led initiatives across the full employee lifecycle and currently oversees people, safeguarding, equality and inclusion at BHAFC as well as sitting on the women’s football club board and the Brighton & Hove Albion Foundation’s board of trustees. She was the driving force behind the club’s multi-award-winning Team Brighton values programme, which has helped shape and embed the club’s distinctive culture and supported its on-field success.

More recently, Rose has worked closely with Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Paul Barber on the development of Vision 2030, the club’s long-term strategic plan.

Before joining Brighton & Hove Albion, Rose held HR roles with Sussex County Cricket Club and in both private and public sector organisations. She is a Graduate Member of the CIPD.

Heather Page, VP of Global Learning and Development at Allied Universal

Heather has over 25 years’ experience in Learning and Development and Talent Management. In her current role as Vice President of Global Learning and Development at Allied Universal, she leads initiatives that support hundreds of thousands of employees across more than 100 countries.

Heather is responsible for improving organisational effectiveness through the design and delivery of solutions that develop high-performing teams and individuals, enhance leadership and functional capability, and drive a culture of excellence.

In 2024, Heather’s Global Talent Development team received the Princess Royal Training Award, presented by HRH The Princess Royal, for their Next Level Leadership programme, recognised as a cornerstone of Allied Universal’s approach to nurturing talent, driving innovation, and embedding diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) into leadership at every level.

Heather Joined Allied Universal following their acquisition of G4S, where she worked across talent development and resourcing. Prior to G4S Heather was responsible for the training of hundreds of Cabin Crew, insuring they were competent to perform their safety critical roles. She is a Graduate Member of the CIPD.

Colin Shipp: Executive Director of Human Resources, University of Sussex

Colin is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (FCIPD) and holds a BA (Hons) in Behaviour in Organisations from Lancaster University.

He has extensive experience across both the public and private sectors, having spent eight years with KPMG, most recently as Head of HR, and 16 years with Royal Mail before moving into the Higher Education sector.

A values-based leader, Colin brings significant expertise in staff engagement, culture change, reward, performance development, employee relations, equality, diversity and inclusion, and health, safety and wellbeing.

As Executive Director of HR and a member of the University Executive Team at the University of Sussex, Colin is responsible for strategic and operational HR leadership. He leads the HR Division to deliver an agile, responsive service and oversees the delivery of the University’s People Strategy in support of its broader strategic goals and objectives.
