About this Event
Laurs Kemp is a Portland-based rework designer focusing on upcycling thrifted materials into one-off garments, documenting these sewing projects as tutorial videos, and hosting in-person reworkshops. This Fall, she's staging a residency at legendary local shop Frances May. During her residency, she will be hosting a series of in-person reworkshops to encourage participants to extend the life of their wardrobe through upcycling.
In this project, we'll be sewing a pair of vintage cloth gloves to the garment of your choice. This has been one of my most requested upcycles, and lends an eye-catching, surreal detail. All you need to bring is your garment of choice: tanks, blouses, tops, light sweaters and blazers. I'll provide sewing machines, vintage gloves, and sewing supplies. Bring a pal or fly solo.
Perfect for a beginner who wants a fun project as an entry point, as well as intermediate sewists who want to explore upcycling techniques. This is a 2.5 hour class that includes choosing the ideal gloves for your garment, the best placement, pinning, and sewing; I'll guide you along the way. You'll leave with some sewing and upcycling chops and a fabulous new garment that will turn heads!
