How did the Jewish mother become defined as nagging, intrusive, and critical? In every other respect, comedy has evolved past ethnic stereotypes, but somehow Jewish mothers are stuck in the Borscht bel. Award winning songwriter Lauren Mayer says it’s high time for an upgrade, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still laugh at the character. She explains how we got here and how we can find more accurate, positive humor, through historic background, interviews, and original comedy music. Songs include “Matzoh Pizza” “My Bubbe’s Brisket”, “I Can’t Help It, I Worry” and more, in an engaging show that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
