This landmark three-paper Lancet Series examines how ultra-processed foods (UPFs) have become a dominant feature of diets worldwide, driving a rapid rise in chronic disease, while reshaping food systems in ways that harm economies, cultures, and the planet.
The Series shows that the problem is systemic: UPFs are the product of a food economy driven by corporate interests, and not nutrition or sustainability.
The authors argue that the rise of UPF in human diets is commercially generated. They are manufactured, marketed, and politically defended by powerful transnational corporations whose business models depend on expansion into every corner of the globe.
A different path is possible: one where governments regulate effectively, communities mobilise, and healthier diets are made accessible and affordable for all.
You will hear from Richard Horton, Editor-in-chief of The Lancet, Series authors, and other world-leading experts, on the scientific, policy, and political dimensions of ultra-processed foods, as a pressing global health challenge.
Register to join us in London on November 19th, for this not-to-be missed launch event.
The Lancet Series on Ultra-processed Foods and Human Health is supported by funding from Bloomberg Philanthropies.
Please note: Doors will open at 6.00pm for an event start of 6.30pm sharp - please be sure to arrive early to secure a good seat. For information on travel options to the venue, and for accessibility information, please visit the RCP website.
