The launch of the 14th Anniversary of Somali Week Festival 2022, Chaired Baar Hersi at the British Library will open conversation around the relationship between modern and traditional art forms and the diversity amongst Somali creatives and how they inspire each other. Professor Siciid Salah will open with reflections on the theme follow by a panel discussion bringing together the director of the first Somali Oscar nominated movie The Gravedigger’s Wife, Khadar Ayderus Ahmed, British music producer Columbia A&R manager Muna Ruumi, author and Translator Abdiziz Guudcadde for an in depth discussion. The evening will conclude with live music from Ikran Jama, vising artist from Somaliland and Somali Traditional Dance.
Our annual Somali Week Festival will run from Friday 21st October to Sunday 30th of October 2022. The theme for this year’s festival explores the intersection of tradition and modernity within the art forms. We will have book launches, poetry, film screenings, children’s day, music and much more! SWF 2022 caters to the wider UK audience with events in Somali and English and creates points of access for Somalis, and a growing number of non-Somalis, to engage with Somali music, arts and literature. Kayd Somali Arts and Culture coordinate regular artistic and cultural events in the UK including Somali Week Festival. It aims to contribute to the appreciation of the rich Somali culture and its diversity through art, literature, poetry, music, theatre and debates and discussions.
