Based on dePaola’s life, it tells the tale of the many years he spent with his dog, Brontë, from their first nights up to their last days together, and the grief that followed at Brontë’s absence. The text for this book was the last project completed by dePaola before he passed away in 2020. Known for his distinct art style and innumerable works, including Strega Nona and Oliver Button Is a Sissy, dePaola was a titan in the world of children’s literature and his work here reminds us that he lives on in our hearts. With simple yet powerful language, and artwork that draws on dePaola’s previous books, it’s a story that remains with you long after you’ve turned the last page.
