Lauhala Chunky Dangle Earrings Weaving Workshop

Join us for a hands-on Lauhala Chunky Dangle Earrings Weaving Workshop led by cultural practitioner Pūlama Long. In this intimate class, participants will learn the cultural foundations and weaving techniques needed to create one pair of lauhala Chunky Dangle earrings to take home.
What You’ll Learn
Pūlama will begin by sharing the moʻōlelo (history) of how the hala tree came to Hawaiʻi, followed by an introduction to kilo—the practice of intentional observation—before guiding participants through the weaving process step by step.
Each participant will:
- Learn cultural context and ʻike kūpuna connected to lauhala
- Practice kilo as part of the creative process
- Weave one pair of lauhala chunky dangle earrings
- Receive free educational downloads to continue learning after class
No prior weaving experience is necessary.
Special Community Pricing
This workshop is offered at a special $10 fee thanks to support from the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority’s Kūkulu Ola Program, which allows Waikīkī Community Center to present cultural workshops at a highly affordable rate.
