About this Event
Start point: Keswick Library (Main Entrance), Heads Lane, Keswick
Length: 11 km (6.8miles) with 312m (1,040ft) of ascent
Time: 4.5 hours (approx.)
Walk grade: 5 (see grade description below)
A walk which begins by following the route of the Keswick to Threlkeld Trail (K2T), before continuing to the summit of Latrigg.
Starting from the centre of Keswick, the route passes the former Keswick railway station, then follows the K2T trail as it weaves its way over the River Greta on some of the original Victorian railway bridges and some rebuilt following Storm Desmond. A steep road ascent, which then continues up the eastern flank of Latrigg along a stony track, leads up to the summit of Latrigg.
A long winding descent, down a well defined track, leads back down into Keswick.
Paths are generally good but there are some sections that will be muddy and/or slippery in poor weather.
Grade 5 walks are our most challenging full day walks which involve going onto the fell summits. These walks require a good level of fitness and full walking kit appropriate for the weather conditions. Some people may find walking poles useful. You may encounter sustained climbs up some steeper sections. The surfaces can be rough and uneven, with rocky or muddy sections, irregular steps, stiles or narrow gates and gaps.
Participants will need to dress appropriately for the terrain and weather. Weather permitting, we will be stopping for a short break on route so please bring refreshments if you wish.
Your confirmation email will include full details - please read it carefully.
