Lasyam invites audiences on a journey through the graceful world of Mohiniyattam,
showcasing select masterpieces from the illustrious repertoire of Padmashri Bharati
Shivaji. A pioneering force in preserving and popularizing this exquisite art form, Guru
Bharati Shivaji's contributions have enriched Mohiniyattam with her unique vision and
profound understanding. Central to her innovation was the deep influence of Kavalam
Narayana Panicker's advocacy for Sopanam music. Recognizing the inherent
structural similarity between Sopanam and the lyrical nature of Mohiniyattam, Guru
Bharati Shivaji meticulously integrated this indigenous musical tradition into her style,
enhancing the dance's authentic Kerala essence and bringing forth the intricacies of its
taalam. This presentation is a heartfelt homage to her legacy. Having had the privilege
to learn these very pieces through the lens of her student Smt. Vinaya Narayanan, Parvathi aims
to embody and share the nuanced artistry, deep spiritual resonance that defined her
work and the essence of Lasyam—the gentle, lyrical aspect of Mohiniyattam.
