Mohiniyattam exponent Dr. Sunanda Nair brings the graceful lyricism and expressive depth of the dance form to life, exploring the nuances of lasya through movement, rhythm, and emotion.
With every gentle sway and lyrical gesture, Mohiniyattam reveals itself as a meditation on the feminine spirit - fluid, expressive, and quietly assured. In Lasya Pravaha–A Mohiniyattam Experience, Dr. Sunanda Nair, acclaimed performer and senior disciple of Padmabhushan awardee Dr. Kanak Rele, draws from the Kanak Rele bani to explore lasya as an inner current shaped equally by structure and sensitivity. Within the codified grammar of the form, movement unfolds with measured grace, rhythm aligned to breath, and expression guided by precision rather than flourish.
Her artistry is defined by clarity of line, controlled energy, and emotional depth. Through subtle shifts of gaze, torso, and hand gesture, she renders longing, devotion, resolve, and quiet introspection with restraint and intent.
Dr. Nair blends performance and scholarship. Having trained and taught at Nalanda Nritya Kala Mahavidyalaya, founded by Dr. Rele, she continues to shape contemporary understanding of the form, ensuring that tradition remains grounded in research, rigour, and refined practice.
