The Writers Guild at Bloomington presents the Allen Ginsberg centennial celebration edition of Last Sunday Poetry, featuring Ian U. Girdley, John Burroughs, Joe Kidd, Sheila Burke, Joan Hawkins, Marilyn Wolf, Josh A. Brewer, Lylanne Musselman, and Mary Sexson. They will read "Howl" Part I, and other Ginsberg poems.ALLEN GINSBERG (1926–1997) is a major poet of the Beat Generation. Copies of his HOWL poetry chapbook (City Lights, 1956) were seized by U.S. customs and the San Francisco police on 25 March 1957, provoking the cultural warfare that threatened to disrupt the placidity of postwar American suburban life. 70 years since the publication of HOWL, Allen Ginsberg is an established American cultural icon whose relevance is greater than ever.
