About this Event
This masterclass is geared toward curious designers and scenographers, offering practical skills to create precise, consistent scale figures and maquettes, with the power of lasers.
When: Wednesday June 24th, 11am - 3pm
Where: FabLab at Creative Spark, Clontygora Ct, Muirhevnamore, Dundalk, Co. Louth, A91 HF77. For those taking public transport, ISPD will arrange transport from Dundalk train station
Workshop aims
- Develop skills to identify suitable designs, materials, and limitations for laser cutting.
- Learn how to prepare 2D artwork for cutting/ engraving.
- Confidence to use laser cutting/engraving for future projects.
- Assembling cut figures or furniture pieces.
Format: A half-day workshop that includes an introduction, live demonstration, hands-on prototyping, workflow discussion, and Q&A. Places at this workshop will be extremely limited; keep an eye on our socials to make sure you get a spot!
Cost: Free to ISPD members, non-members pay approx. €50. (workshop usually costs over €100 per participant)
What:
- A hands on introduction to lasercutting for designers. Learning how to use lasercutting in your creative or production process. E.g scale figures and furniture for modelmaking
- Run by experts at FabLab
Key Outcomes
- Identify suitable designs, materials, and limitations for laser cutting scale figures and model furniture.
- Prepare and customize 2D artwork using simple templates.
- Successfully produce and assemble at least one figure and/or model furniture piece during the session.
- Develop confidence to use laser cutting or engraving for future performance design projects.
What do you need:
- Attendees can bring their laptop with their preferred vectorise software like Illustrator or Inkscape.Laptops can also be provided at the venue with the required software.
- Ideally participants will bring 2-3 prepared vectors files that they would like to test in the laser cutter/engraver (e.g files made in CAD, Rhino, Fusion 360 etc.) but this is not a prerequisite
- Wood and cardboard will be provided for the workshop but participants may bring additional test materials (e.g perspex)
