Some books explain a country. This one tastes like one.LAS VEGAS GOOD READS invite you on June 21 to celebrate the USA premiere of the English edition of Na Oko: Adventures in Village Cooking from Bulgaria’s Forgotten Corners by Rory Miller — a book about Bulgarian villages, the people who still live in them, and the food that keeps their stories alive.
Rory spent years traveling across Bulgaria by bus, train, and a forty-year-old Lada, staying with families in forgotten corners of the country, cooking with babas, listening to old men who haven’t drunk water in fifteen years, and discovering that the best way to know someone is to sit at their table. The result is part travelogue, part cookbook, and part love letter to a Bulgaria most people drive past without stopping.
Na Oko is a Bulgarian phrase. Literally, it means “by eye.” No measuring. No recipes demanding precision. Just instinct, attention, and trust.
That felt like the right spirit for a party.
On the event:
• Village cocktails to start - will be specially made by the author
• Two specialties from Northwest Bulgaria featured in the book, specially prepared by the amazing Miglena Mladenova
• A presentation and book signing with the author
• Photographs from the villages, kitchens, and people who made the book what it is
Come for the food. Stay for the stories. Leave with a book.
Doors open at 2:00 PM
Book signing begins at 3:30 PM… probably.
