Tucked away in the Sierra Foothills of Northern California, a band of renegade women honor the music of the Grateful Dead all the way to its roots. Las Ninas Muertas is a five-piece, mostly acoustic unit playing a wide range of material from the Dead catalog as well as some of their well-loved covers. Ingrained with a passion for this timeless songbook, Las Ninas Muertas sing in that high-lonesome, four-part harmony style. Searing harmonica slices through the mix along with electric guitar riffs, twangy banjo, twinkling mandolin and the perpetual chugging of upright bass. At times you’ll feel transported all the way back to the jug band origins of the Dead.Las Ninas Muertas invite you to dance, sing along and join together over a shared appreciation for one of the most iconic bands of all time. You don’t have to be a deadhead though to embrace the magic afoot. Music like this transcends any genre and is intended to unify people in the way it did for our early ancestors around the campfire. Juliet Gobert of the famed Bob Woods Band is one of the driving forces behind this project and we’ve learned long ago to put our chips on anything she’s involved with. This event will be held on the first Saturday of each month for the foreseeable future, so thanks in advance for your support of this new outlet for early bird musical fun.
