Join us for a gentle creative journey where poetry, languages, and music meet and breathe together. We come to poetry not only as a form of language, but as a way of listening, to life unfolding around us, to one another, and to the quiet, often overlooked voice within. It is a kind of attention that reveals hidden layers of meaning, casts light on the ordinary, and gives shape to what so often remains unspoken.Poetry carries a unique power. It softens the walls between us. It speaks to what is deeply personal, yet universally human, allowing us to recognize ourselves in one another, across cultures, languages, and lived experiences.
These workshops are part of Languages of the Heart, a project that brings together people from diverse cultural backgrounds living in Iceland. Through poetry, storytelling, and music, we open a shared space, one where expression, connection, and a sense of belonging can take root.
Dumitrița Simion and Geoffrey Stekelenburg will be the facilitators of the workshops.
Dates: 2–3 May
Time: 10:00 – 15:00
Venue: Hafnar.Haus, Reykjavik
In a warm and welcoming atmosphere, you will be invited to:
- Explore your personal story through creative writing,
- Connect with others through the process of creating and sharing your honest poem, in the language of your choice,
- Have your poem recorded as part of a collective poetry album, to be released on digital streaming platforms.
Later in the year, you will also be invited to take part in a public performance, where these poems will come alive alongside original music, and where we will celebrate the release of the album together.
No prior experience is needed, only curiosity, openness, and a willingness to listen inward. We believe that everyone carries at least one poem within them. With care, gentle guidance, and a few well-tested tools, we will help you bring it into the light.
Places are limited.
A light lunch will be offered.
If requested, we will organize childcare at the event so that parents can attend.
