Acclaimed Manipuri dancer and choreographer Latasana Devi unites classical, folk, and martial traditions in a mesmerising dance of rhythm, grace, and devotion.
Inspired by the sacred traditions of Manipur, this performance reflects the unbroken thread that binds dance, music, and devotion. Conceived and performed by Latasana Devi, it draws from the luminous heritage of Nata Sankirtana, where the soulful Sheishak singing mirrors the earthy Khulang Eshei of the folk, reminding us that the classical and the folk are not separate streams, but part of a single, flowing continuum.
In this evocative presentation, the discipline of Thang-Ta meets the rhythmic vitality of Pung Cholom and Kartal Cholom, merging seamlessly with the grace of Classical Manipuri dance. Each movement becomes a prayer, where rhythm transforms into pulse, gesture into devotion, and martial energy into spiritual offering.
A distinguished disciple of Guru Bipin Singh, Padmashree Darshana Jhaveri, and Kalavati Devi, Latasana Devi is a top-grade Doordarshan artist and ICCR-empanelled performer, honoured with numerous national accolades including the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2024). She continues to nurture the next generation through her dedicated teaching and artistic work, carrying forward Manipur’s timeless legacy of dance and devotion.
