?Come and Experience Carmen’s Sinamay Weaving!???????? (??) ????? await those who wish to participate in our Sinamay weaving demonstration and workshop this ??????, ?? ???????? ????, ???? ? ?? ?? ? ??, at your #NationalMuseumCebu!
Sinamay is a kind of textile made of Abaca plant fibers. They are sewn into our traditional Filipiniana wear and even as local souvenir products such as bags and accessories. In Cebu, the town of Carmen continues to grow abaca putting them among the top producers of Sinamay. In this workshop, we would like to demonstrate the process of making sinamay, from abaca fiber extraction to weaving, and challenge the creativity of our participants by forming and designing different products from this textile such as refrigerator magnets, bags, wallets, what-have-you!
As we celebrate the National Children’s Month 2025, your #NMPCebu encourages the youth to take part in this activity to encourage appreciation for Cebu’s heritage and instill pride in this valuable craft. By showcasing Sinamay weaving as one of Carmen’s enduring local industries, this program would like participants to recognize the value of traditional skills and the local communities that preserve and conserve them.
This activity is in collaboration with your NMP-Cebu and the Municipality of Carmen as our way of showing sustainability of cultural heritage through partnerships among museums and local communities. This public program aligns itself with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and supports local product development initiatives which engages and empowers communities and uplifts various sectors.
Let us learn from our culture bearers, the Sinamay weavers of Carmen, and raise awareness of the town’s thriving weaving industry.
