Ride the Beach.
The Cleveland Metroparks Mounted Unit is proud to offer our Ride the Beach fundraiser for its 8th consecutive year! Thank you to the generous support of our presenting sponsor our Official Community Sponsor the Cuyahoga County Horseman’s Council along with Centerra-Purina and the continued support of Big Dee’s Tack and Vet Supply, as the Mounted Unit looks forward to sharing our beautiful Lakefront Reservation with you!
Our event provides the public an opportunity to bring their own horse and ride the Cleveland shoreline at historic Edgewater Beach- taking in the spectacular views, plenty of photo opportunities, and time in the water if you choose. Proceeds directly assist the Mounted Unit with specialized equipment purchases and unique training opportunities.
Ticket sales will be online and begin July 21st at 9am. Space is limited! Registration for Ride the Beach will utilize our new registration service. Please note that new and returning registrants will need to create an account (Opens in a new window) in the new system ahead of registering. Participants may only register members within the same household. This does not guarantee tickets.
New for 2025, we are bringing back the ride to Whiskey Island for one ride only! Please read carefully. This guided ride has a higher level of stimulus as we ride past an active industrial area. Once back to Wendy Park, there will be a photo opportunity with the Flats as the backdrop. Included is still the loop to the Cleveland sign, and finish with a ride on the beach. This time slot is longer due to the additional travel time to Whiskey Island and back.

Friday October 10th 10am-12pm, 11:30am-1:30pm
Saturday October 11th 10am-1pm includes Whiskey Island, 12:30pm-2:30pm
Sunday October 12th 10am-12pm, 11:30pm-1:30pm, 1pm-3pm

More tips and info:
Riding or leading if you prefer, you must wear a helmet and bring your own equine companion. Please be mindful of footwear - flip flops are not a good choice as they tend to twist or fall off.
The Cleveland MetroParks open at 6 AM and close at 11 PM, but please plan to exit Edgewater Beach after the ride as it is not a designated horse area, and horses are only permitted on the Edgewater Beach grounds while the Cleveland Metroparks staff and volunteers are present. There are designated parking lot rows for the ride. Just look for the Ranger units and pull up there to register and park in our section of the parking lot. There will be plenty of room for your rig.
Please allow yourself plenty of loading and travel time. The number of horses in each segment is strictly limited so they most likely cannot add you to the next group if you are late. Your ride start time means be with your equine companion in the gathering area in the parking lot. If you are traveling from a distance and would like to stay in the area a day or two, check with nearby Rocky River Stables for short term boarding with a stall or the Cleveland Metroparks are allowing some permit overnight horse camping at the South Chagrin Polo Fields or Brecksville Reservation Meadows Trailer Parking area. Unofficial photographers, companions and the general public must stay outside of the cordoned area for the safety of all. There are several nice vantage points for photography of the horses playing in the sandy area at the back of the designated area and rocks jut out past the shore which give a nice perspective of horses entering the water as well. The park will make every attempt to have a professional photographer inside the perimeter for each session, but it is not guaranteed.
