Join your entire Lake Cumberland Diversity Collective community on Saturday, June 20th as we celebrate Black history, uplift the cultural significance, and remember the fight to end of slavery. The holiday “Juneteenth” combines the words “June” and “nineteenth” in celebration of the day in 1865 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce they won the American Civil War and that the practice of slavery had been signed into order to end in Confederate states.
With our region's complex history, we remember this order did not apply to Kentucky, making this Juneteenth even more important to celebrate!
