A powerful solo directorial debut film from Greta Gerwig, LADY BIRD pairs humor with the tumult of adolescence in an authentic, fresh take on the coming-of-age story. Christine, or as she calls herself “Lady Bird” (Saoirse Ronan), is a high school senior with big dreams of ditching her hometown for college in New York. But as she tiptoes the line between child- and adulthood she constantly butts heads with her mother (Laurie Metcalf), whose more practical approach to day-to-day survival clashes with Lady Bird’s independent spirit.
