Hi Ladies! Have you wanted to try ice fishing but don’t know where to start?
Or do you want to add extra winter activities to your list?
Come join me, Jen at Moose, Mushrooms, and Mud Wildcraft, Sat Feb 7th from 8:30am-3:30pm for an introduction to Ice Fishing for Kokanee and Trout. This is an in-depth 6 hour experience (7 hour total with a 1 hour lunch/travel break).
The morning component will be for 8:30-11:45am at 2793 Range Road, in the basement of the St. Michael's Orthodox Ukrainian Church.
I’ll talk about the equipment needed and methods used for both Kokanee fishing and Rainbow Trout Fishing. I’ll talk about the local lakes, ice safety, fishing regulations, and how to find more information about fishing in Northern BC, to help you gain more confidence on getting out there on the ice!
Plus, I'll show you what to do with your catch after you caught one, like cleaning and processing.
Plus, learn how to put your own ice fishing rig together.
You will get your own flasher, leader, and jig head to take home for future use. Yours to keep!
Bonus: I’ll have some appetizers of Fish and Chips made up with trout and kokanee for you to try out before we break for lunch.
In the afternoon, we will meet up at Eena Lake for 1:00pm and we will head out onto the ice to try our hand at catching some fish!
I’ll show you how to set up equipment, use the equipment, bait your hooks, and Jig for fish. After that, you will get to try yourself jigging for kokanee!
Will you catch one?
THINGS TO NOTE: You must have a valid paper Fishing license to fish on Eena Lake for Saturday Feb 7th.
Purchase a 1-day fishing license here: https://j100.gov.bc.ca/pub/ras/signin.aspx
WEATHER: You must be appropriately dressed for the weather: Winter boots, Winter Jacket, Toque, Gloves, Scarf and Ice Cleats. Showing up without appropriate winter gear may result in you not being allowed to participate in the fishing experience on Eena Lake.
Note: If the weather is -15 or below, the afternoon fishing component will be cancelled and moved to another weekend. There is just too much exposure standing on the ice for 2-3 hours if it’s -16 or colder. If it’s -15 and there is a severe wind, again, it will be moved. Let’s hope for great weather! Historically it’s decent temperature on average that day. We will still have the morning component in the building.
TO BRING:
I’ll have tea, water, coffee and a breakfast muffin provided in the morning class. Feel free to bring a travel mug, a water bottle, snacks or anything else you would like. When we break for lunch, you are free to go/do what you would like.
For the afternoon component of the class, bring snacks, hot tea/coffee/water if you’d like. Bring a chair to sit on, and if you have your own ice fishing rod, please bring it!
Lunch break starts between 11:45am-12:00pm. We meet at Eena lake for 1pm. It takes approximately 40minutes to get to Eena Lake. So give yourself a 40 minute driving window to get to Eena lake during lunch.
