LAB RATS returns! Powered by a community partnership with Lumo SA, ILA is excited to announce our next series of hands-on workshops with a focus on creative tech, shared learning and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The Lab at ILA are excited to present musicians Jonty Czuchwicki (CZUCHWICKI) and Max Hurrell (INNERÆLCHEMIST) – discussing the creative process and technical approach to their upcoming live performance as part of Fringe Festival 2025.
Presented as 2 unique works, both artists will perform audio/visual pieces in response to their experiences in the natural world, presented through a digital and experimental lens. This special artist talk for LAB RATS will examine the creative and technical process behind each work from conception to delivery.

CZUCHWICKI’s piece entitled ‘Phosphenes’ emerged from his studies at the Berklee College of Music in Valencia, Spain and utilizes percussion and reactive visuals to simulate visual phosphenes – the experience of seeing light and colour with closed eyes.
INNERÆLCHEMIST’s performance transforms the sounds of Australia’s landscapes into a tangible musical journey. The audience is invited to reconnect with our natural ecosystem through the use of live visuals, evolving sound, and intricate pattern.

Who is CZUCHWICKI?
CZUCHWICKI is contemporary musician Jonty Czuchwicki – a drummer, producer and audiovisual artist living on Kaurna Land. Jonty’s music practice is a fluid blend of electronic music production, sound design, traditional instrumentation and audio reactive visuals.
Having completed a Masters of Arts in Music Production, Technology and Innovation at Berklee College of Music, Valencia - Jonty debuted the ‘Phoshenes’ AV show in May 2023 and released an EP of the same name in 2024. Now, Phosphenes debuts in Adelaide at the 2025 Fringe Festival, presented as part of a double headliner with INNERÆLCHEMIST.

Who is INNERÆLCHEMIST?
INNERÆLCHEMIST is the moniker of Max Hurrell artist, musician, and co-founder of Adelaide-based recording studio and artist development hub, Songbird Society.
Drawing on the subtle symphonies of Australia’s birdlife, flowing water, and the energy within plants themselves, Max creates music that bridges the gap between the organic and the digital. His work aims to channel the hidden rhythms of nature into immersive soundscapes, offering a vision of harmony between humanity, technology, and the natural world.

Thanks to a community partnership with Lumo SA, Lab Rats is ILA’s public program focused on creative tech, shared learning, and interdisciplinary collaboration as a series of workshops, artist presentations, networking sessions, and discussion panels.
