About this Event
ICYOLA, the largest predominantly Black orchestra in the U.S., is dedicated to enriching young lives through exceptional music education. In collaboration with African Americans for LA Opera, this event will spotlight esteemed compositions by Black composers.
Featured works include the iconic “Black National Anthem,” “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” by ICYOLA Music Director Charles Dickerson. Also, enjoy “Festival Overture” by Kenechi Fortune and “Trial and Triumph” by Kenichi and Kevon Fortune, paying tribute to the first female African American U.S. Supreme Court Justice, Ketanji Brown Jackson. Margaret Bonds’ “Montgomery Variations,” inspired by pivotal moments in the civil rights movement, adds to the evening’s powerful program.
All LA Voices events are free of charge and will include docent-led tours of The Ebell of LA’s historic campus.
