We are honoured to welcome Marc Howes for a special open-style martial arts workshop. With over 50 years of dedicated training and experience, Hanshi Marc brings a lifetime of knowledge, realism, and fighting spirit to the dojo. Beginning his journey in 1973 in Wadoryu Karate in Pembroke, Wales, he went on to become a two-time Welsh Junior Champion and later represented his country internationally in Knockdown Karate, competing in Russia, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, and Greece.
Hanshi Marc is a two-time AKA British Champion and winner at Scotland’s first Independent Knockdown Championships. During the early days of UK kickboxing in the 1980s, he competed in multiple bouts across the country. In the early 1990s, he introduced Ashihara Karate – “The Fighting Karate” – to Scotland, helping shape the full-contact scene.
A true pioneer, he was also among the first to teach MMA in Scotland, studying ground fighting through early Pancrase (Catch Wrestling) material from Japan. His martial journey later led him to Jon Bluming and the Kyokushin Budokai system — a complete karate system in which he became a direct student of Kaicho Bluming.
What to Expect:
Practical fighting applications
Knockdown principles and conditioning
Karate as a complete system
Insights from decades of competition and teaching
Open exchange of knowledge across styles
This workshop is open to all styles and systems. Whether your background is traditional karate, knockdown, kickboxing, or MMA, this is a rare opportunity to train with one of the UK’s most experienced and respected martial artists.
Come with an open mind and a strong spirit.
