Enjoy a day of culture, performance, and tradition during one of the region’s biggest Kwanzaa celebrations. Celebrated at the Museum for more than 20 years, the free, annual Kwanzaa Celebration is presented in partnership with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Saint Louis Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter.ABOUT THE EVENT
The event’s theme this year is “Abakobwa ni Abanyembaraga: Limitless Power and Potential.” The phrase, in the Rwandan language Kinyarwanda, translates to “girls are powerful people.” The free event will honor the resilience of woman athletes at the Olympics.
KWANZAA SCHEDULE
10 am–2 pm, Museum galleries
Create a zawadi (gift) during a hands-on art activity.
Participate in a self-guided tour and gallery hunt.
11 am–12:30 pm, The Farrell Auditorium
Enjoy an educational program including dance and drum. The performance is free, but tickets are required and available on-site only starting December 28 at 10 am. A limit of six tickets is available per person.
12:30–2 pm, Sculpture Hall
The afternoon will include African-inspired refreshments, a Kwanzaa photobooth, and Adinkra stamping activity.
