About this Event

Join this masterclass with artist Dwight Jones, an award-nominated, Barbadian-born, Toronto-based musical creative and multi-instrumentalist improviser whose work is rooted in sonic exploration and immersive soundscapes shaped by Caribbean roots and modern influences. The session will focus on navigating the modern music industry from the perspectives of both creators and listeners and is open not only to musicians but to all consumers of music, with discussion centered on how individual choices shape the music ecosystem.

As part of KUUMBA 365, a year-long initiative celebrating Black cultures and creative practices, Dwight Jones, Larnell Lewis, and Dennis Passley will perform in KUUMBA 365: Sounds of Blackness at The Fleck at Harbourfront Centre Theatre on February 6 at 8:00 PM. Dwight’s performance responds to Jeneen Njootli’s exhibition, creating a dynamic dialogue between sound and visual art and offering audiences a unique experience of artistic conversation in action.

Dwight Jones is an award-nominated, Barbadian-born, Toronto-based musical creative and multi-instrumentalist improviser. With a deep love for sonic exploration, he crafts immersive soundscapes that reflect both his Caribbean roots, modern influences and curiosity. His performances have been featured at a range of celebrated artistic festivals, including Fall for Dance North, Danse Danse and Dream in High Park, where his improvisational style and expressive musicianship continue to captivate audiences.

When he’s not at home serenading his unsuspecting neighbours with waves of experimental sound, Jones can be found performing across Toronto alongside some of your favourite artists and exploring new creative opportunities on the global stage.
