About this Event
Carol-Ann Apilado will lead a hands-on workshop inviting folks to explore and connect with their Filipinx identity through kusikus weaving.
The kusikus pattern, traditionally woven by the Itneg and Ilokano communities in the Philippines, is known for its layered, almost psychedelic design, believed to offer protection by confusing negative spirits.
In this 3-hour session, participants will learn to weave a “one-eyed kusikus” using paper and cotton yarn. All materials will be provided.
Registration is first come, first served. Two limited-capacity options are available:
• Table loom weaving
• Paper weaving
Table loom weaving is available for participants ages 12+, while paper weaving is open to all ages (recommended for children 9 and under). For participants under 16, a parent or guardian must attend and be registered alongside the child. Registration includes all materials, as well as drinks and light snacks.
