KURA KAIAKO WORKSHOP

Kaiako mā, step into a classroom that spans over a thousand years, encompassing the CBD of Tāmaki Auckland, and spanning across both the Waitematā and Manukau harbours. We’ll help you unlock your own teaching potential to become more culturally confident and tuned into the local histories and traditions on your school’s backdoor.

Kura Kaiako ki Tāmaki are customized wānanga for kaiako teachers based in Tāmaki (central isthmus). Each wānanga will include site visits, tribal narratives, hapū waiata, and the events and people that make Tāmaki a unique and special place.

Our team of tribal historians and cultural experts will take you on a journey so you can share these cultural gems with your students

Kura Kaiako ki Tāmaki caters to all levels of reo and understanding. Whether you’re Kura Kaupapa, Bilingual, or a Mainstream kaiako teacher – you will walk away with a new appreciation for Tāmaki.

Info: You will learn key whakatauki (proverbs), kupu whakarite (metaphors) and kīwaha (idioms) of this region.


NGĀ WAIATA TAWHITO: Ancient Waiata

Info: You will learn customary waiata pertaining to this region.


NGĀ HUA NUI O TE TAU: Key Events

Info: You will understand key events of the Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland calendar.
