◥ KULKU (Berlin) ◣ Formed in Berlin at the turn of the millennium, Kulku have evolved as a highly unique and free-formed collective of musicians that make trance-inducing, jazz-entwined, percussive and soulful (mostly) acoustic music that takes cues from the rhythmic propulsion of Jaki Leibezeit's Can, the street-folk of Moondog, the minimalism of Steve Reich, and the droning rock n' roll of the Velvet Underground, forming a sound that they themselves have coined 'No-Age Krautrock'.
Following on from last year's sold out debut LP 'Fahren', 'Reset To Be' offers 5 new songs across 2 sides of vinyl.
This is a record that perfectly showcases the unique identity the band have been developing over the past 20 years,
a sound crafted through experimentation and innovation with primarily acoustic instruments; droning harmoniums, repetitive and phasing xylophones, timpani, cello, scrap metal and woodwind reeds, all sitting alongside soulful saxophone and the voice of frontman Andreas Riska, singing in both German and English.'

Pidgins is an experiment in percussive languages. the mexico city duo transform the oral and rhytmic methods of traditional trance rituals by phasing metric, melodic, and rhetorical phrases. these pattern systems form the grammar pidgins use to construct linguistic puzzles-form productivity mantras to guided de-meditations. pidgins speak in such tongues to interrogate contempory trance states-managerial class dogmas, self-help literature, and new age therapies.
percussionist milo tamez's drumming is informed by a decades-long study of polyrhthm. his work employs melo-rhytmic percussive textures within multidimensional patterns. vocalist and electroacoustician aaron with chants technocratic jargon mantras, gradually phasing their word orders to reveal hidden meanings.
pidgins sonoc palette is wide. tamez flows between minimal percussion and extended drum set. with electronics mix just intonations, historical instruments, and field recordings. these organic instrumental qualities contrast against with's synthetic vocal characters-conceived of as tech-augmented transhuman figures nostalgically pininig for a natural past they can only imagine. pidgins live performances are accompanied by uncomfortably soothing stock video collages designed to deepen each refrain's trance potential.
