National Liberation Day of Korea (광복절, "Gwangbokjeol") - "The Day the Light Returned" - August 15th, 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the 35-year long occupation of the Korean Peninsula by the Empire of Japan. During this period, Korean culture and language were suppressed in an attempt to eradicate them. The name 광복절, Gwangbokjeol, uses the term "restoration" (복, bog) instead of "independence" (독립, doglip) to emphasize that Korean had been independent prior to the Japanese invasion. Many celebrations and activities are held with flags of many countries being flown around Seoul Olympic Park.Led by Executive Sous Chef Nick West, Field Day is proud to present our take on Korean small plates in celebration of this important international holiday.
