LA's KONTRAVOID is gracing our stage this November with his freaky darkpop. It's darkwave, goth, industrial techno. RIYL: Boy Harsher. And he's joined by the cinematic and just-as-dark MVTANT from San Antonio. Richmond's The Treasury and The Triangle's very new Idol Talk round out the bill.Doors 7 / Show 8

KONTRAVOID
Cameron Findlay says he’s always viewed his darkpop solo project Kontravoid as “a way to write music for a split personality.” Onstage, Kontravoid vigorously controls the room with every step, shouting gender-switching distorted vocals. His disguise, just a plastic Halloween mask covered in something goopy, looks like it’s melting during the performance, and each gesture bumps along the beat and nudges people to dance.
MVTANT
The music of MVTANT, the solo dark electronic project of Joseph Anger, carries the listener through the collage-like use of future primitive lo-fi samples, punishing basslines, washes of nauseating synthesizers, all woven together into constantly shapeshifting song structures. Drawing heavily from body horror cinema and ero guro graphic novels, MVTANT has crafted a world that is uniquely grotesque and otherworldly, that walks the line between dreamlike fantasies and waking nightmares.
