Konstantin Lifschitz has established a worldwide reputation for performing extraordinary feats of endurance with honesty and persuasive beauty. His performance was praised as โ€œthe most magical momentโ€œ and โ€œdeeply satisfyingโ€ by The Independent, and โ€œnaturally expressive and grippingโ€ by the New York Times.
Born in Kharkov, Ukraine in 1976, at the age of five, Konstantin Lifschitz was enrolled in the Gnessin Special School of Music in Moscow as a student of Tatiana Zelikman. In the early 1990s, with a grant from the Russian Cultural Foundation, Konstantin Lifschitz started to play recitals in European capitals, and toured with The Moscow Virtuosi and St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra and performed Shostakovich Piano Trio with Mischa Maisky and Gidon Kremer. In 1995 he received the ECHO Klassik Award and in 1996 he was nominated for a Grammy awardfor Bachโ€™s Goldberg Variations.
Since his sensational debut recital in Moscow at the age of 13, Konstantin Lifschitz performs solo recitals at the major festivals and the most important concert venues worldwide. In Germany he has performed with such orchestras as the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg, MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, SWR Symphony Orchestra and Stuttgart Philharmonic. And internationally, he has appeared with many of the great orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra and New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. He has collaborated with leading conductors such as Mstislav Rostropovich, Vladimir Spivakov, Yury Temirkanov, Sir Neville Marriner, Bernard Haitink, Sir Roger Norrington, Fabio Luisi, Marek Janowski, Eliahu Inbal, Andrey Boreyko, Dmitry Sitkovetsky and Christopher Hogwood.
As a chamber musician, Konstantin Lifschitz has collaborated with such artists as Gidon Kremer, Maxim Vengerov, Vadim Repin, Misha Maisky, Mstislav Rostropovich, Natalia Gutman, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Lynn Harrell, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Daishin Kashimoto, Leila Josefowicz, Carolin und Jรถrg Widmann, Sol Gabetta, Eugene Ugorski, Alexander Knyazev and Alexander Rudin.
As a prolific recording artist, he has been releasing over 30 CDs and DVDs, many of which have received exceptional reviews. In 2020 to celebrate the composerโ€™s 250 years jubilee Lifschitz released CD and Vinyl Box of Beethovenโ€™s Complete 32 Piano Sonatas with Alpha Classics (Live recordings). His most recent CD release, dedicated to Bach and Peter Seabourneโ€™s toccatas, came out in 2022, and digitally, his latest Bach recording accompanies and illustrates his Bach Wanderbook (Book of Hours, Days, and Seasons with J.S. Bach).
Konstantin Lifschitz is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music in London and has been appointed a professor of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts since 2008.
