We are very excited to welcome Get Medieval to The Barn for our first summer Knight School!Step into a world of chivalry at Knight School with Get Medieval at Winterbourne Medieval Barn!
Perfect for ages 6+ (with carers), this hands-on experience invites young squires to train to be real knights. Participants will learn the basics of sword fighting, design their own unique heraldry, handle medieval arms and armour, and play their way through England's first civil war with Anarchy 1138. Across four exciting activity stations, you'll learn the skills, discover the history, and earn your title as a medieval knight.
Sword School - Take up the sword and compete in duels, all vs all combat, and team battles.
Heraldry Workshop - Design your very own coat of arms and take your place in the hall of heroes.
Arms and Armour Handling - Discover the gruesome history of medieval weapons and armour.
Anarchy 1138 - Panic, plot, and play your way through England's first civil war.
About Get Medieval:
We specialise in making history come alive for everyone through immersive, educational experiences. Our activities combine medieval equipment, expert historical knowledge, and interactive experiences to create unforgettable memories.
Our sessions are designed to:
* Inspire curiosity and enthusiasm for history
* Encourage teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking
* Give a tangible experience of life in the Middle Ages
* Be a lot of fun (and safe)!
Recommended for ages 6years+ with an adult, or 8+ if attending independently.
There is no maximum age limit, so grown-ups are very welcome too!
Ticket price includes access to all activities listed above, all materials needed, plus squash, tea & coffee throughout the event.
These activities will be held in our beautiful main barn and hopefully outside if the weather is nice, so there will be plenty of space to move around, but do remember our main barn can get chilly when sat still in there, so please dress according for the weather and we always recommend bringing an extra layer.
Please also remember sun protection for the sections that will take place outside, weather dependent.
A responsible adult will need to remain at the barn with the child / children attending. Under 18s must be accompanied at all times whilst on our site.
Tickets are only required for those taking part.
There will be plenty of space for grown ups to stay and watch the child(ren) they are accompanying, but it also a very fun activity to do together!
A small selection of refreshments will be available. Cash and card payments accepted.
Please bring your own packed lunch as there are no catering facilities on site.
Parking is free, but limited at The Barn, BS36 1SE. Please lift share or arrange drop off / pick up where possible to help us reduce the number of cars on site.
We have an accessible toilet and baby changing facilities on site.
The primary purpose of this event is to raise money for WMBT and to support conservation, management, maintenance and improvement of the WMBT site.
If you wish to avoid the online booking fee then please contact the office to arrange a time to come and book in person.
