About this Event
For folks who have been to one of our public kirtans before, this is a chance to drop in even deeper in an intimate and informal setting. If this is your first time, we do two public events every month at different venues in downtown Portland, check out our Eventbrite profile or find us on Facebook or Meetup at Portland Kirtan Meditation for all the details!
We’ll be in my living room with limited spots, so we’re asking everyone to please RSVP in advance. If you can’t make it last minute, come back to this page to cancel your RSVP and that will automatically open a spot for someone else. If you’re in our WhatsApp group you can also drop a note in there once the ticket has been released to let folks know there’s an opening.
Come for a homemade plant-based dinner at the start of the program, made with love by our volunteer community. At 7pm, we’ll open our meditation with a guided breathing practice and a resonant mantra circle that takes you deep into a meditative space. Then, sing along with ancient healing mantras from the bhakti yoga tradition.
Address: Look out for an email with the address, or text 808.369.6320 if you don't see it for any reason
Parking: We’re meeting at my house which is in a residential neighborhood of St. Johns with free street parking. The streets are narrow and we’d like to stay friends with our neighbors. Please consider carpooling, park at least 2 blocks away (this helps distribute cars) and double check to make sure you’re not blocking a driveway.
Accessibility: We have some stairs leading up to the house
Seating: We will have floor cushions. I can’t find my backchairs at the moment, so if you have one, you’re welcome to bring it. If you aren’t comfortable sitting on the floor, please come on the earlier side to reserve a chair (you’re welcome to come as early as 6pm).
Food: We serve out dinner between 6:15-7pm. If you’d like a plate, please arrive in time to be done eating by 7pm. All our food is made and offered with love by our volunteer community. We serve dinner because we want people to be able to come right after work, because it’s a wonderful way to build community and because in the kirtan tradition sharing food that’s been offered with love (called prasadam) is a purifying, meditative activity. We cook plant-based, strictly vegetarian and usually vegan. We will always have vegan options.
How to support: A $10 suggested donation helps us cover the costs of food and ongoing costs for the larger events we do, and is always deeply appreciated. If you’d like to pitch in with cooking, setup or any other aspect of the events, come find one of the organizers at the event and we’ll add you to our WhatsApp community!
Feel free to text Chay directly at 808.369.6320 with any additional questions.
