About this Event
27 Sep β 03 October, 2024
Opening on Saturday from 16:00h
Kirsty Fletcher, a South African artist now living in the Netherlands works with single-use and waste products. Her current body of work involves advertising material delivered to most Dutch households on a weekly basis. By utilizing something so common, issues such as over-abundance and excess consumption which is endemic to the first world are explored.
Inspired by artists such as El Anatsui and Moffat Takadiwa, Kirstyβs use of material holds the message that the work conveys. The labour intensive process alludes to the hidden energy and labour costs that we are unaware of. The bright, happy colours used are a metaphor for promises made by advertising and marketing campaigns.
