Kiota Iftar: Ramadan Special

Join us for KIOTA, showcasing Black and People of Colour (BPOC) creatives from various artistic disciplines for this Ramadan special. Break your fast with us, hear stories around the sacred time and enjoy an evening of Muslim Artists. Hosted by Shagufta Iqbal, expect a fantastic evening of performance followed by networking opportunities.
Details of the Acts for each show will be on our social media platforms closer to the show dates but previous shows have included: Saili Katebe, Vanessa Kisuule, Birdspeed, Deepraj Singh, Black Women Let Loose, Muneera Pilgrim and original collaborations.
Kiota aims to tackle decolonisation of arts spaces in Bristol, recognising that colonialists created the social construct of race and racial hierarchy to be able to control and exploit colonies around the world and that this still affects how we view the world, ourselves and therefore how we interact with the spaces we encounter. We want to do this in a joyful way to celebrate the diverse voices that exist in Bristol and the surrounding areas.
Kiota are committed to creating original collaborations between BPOC artists of different disciplines who wouldn’t ordinarily have the chance to work together to see how their artistic practise evolves. Swahili for “nest” Kiota are building our namesake to offer an opportunity to share, learn and network with other BPOC creatives whether emerging, established or anything in between! So, if that describes you or you simply want to enjoy the variety of wonderful performances, come along! The performers will all be BPOC but ALL ARE WELCOME TO WATCH!
“Eye-opening, entertaining and thought-provoking.”
