About this Event
Get an introduction to the Japanese craft of Kinusaiga, which creates a quilted picture using fabric and foam.
Join us on Thursday 21st May 7-9.30pm at Corner Coffee Co on Bath Road, Cheltenham to spend the evening creating a unique landscape that looks as though it has been sewn together like a quilt- but this is a super easy no-sew technique!
Amy will go through a quick demonstration of the method, before you are able to browse the tables of fabric to choose colours and patterns that inspire you.
You will each have a piece of foam with a basic sunset and hills / sea scene cut into it so you can get straight to the process of cutting and tucking fabric into the foam to ‘colour- in’ your piece. If you came to the Quilted Bauble workshop last Christmas you will be familiar with the technique. The foam is covered with adhesive tape that holds the fabric in place while you tuck the edges into the cuts.
By altering your fabric choice, you can create a sunset or sunny blue sky, or even change the sun to a moon and make a night scene! Use green and brown for rolling hills, or pick blues to creates waves. It’s totally up to you.
NB: This workshop involves cutting into and manipulating foam (a similar texture to polystyrene) so if that is an aversion of yours, sadly this might not be the workshop for you. It also involves holding and pressing with a small tool, so if you are prone to pain in your hands, please also take this into consideration. If you need glasses for close up work please bring them along!
You will go home with a foam and fabric picture that can be displayed as is, or you can finish it off by putting it in a frame (not supplied).
Your ticket included a free drink and extra drinks and cakes will be available to purchase on the night.
