The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places - Ernest Hemingway
Kintsugi is the Japanese technique of repairing broken pottery with golden joinery. This process is used to not only repair ceramics but highlight the breaks. Kintsugi serves as a wonderful metaphor for embracing our flaws as we work on repairing ourselves. Using this metaphor for healing can teach us that in the process of repairing something broken we actually create something more unique, beautiful and resilient.
In this one day workshop you will be guided through a kintsugi process of repairing a bowl as you explore your personal resilience in overcoming heartbreak, separation, trauma, uncertainty or feelings of brokenness.
The hands on nature of kintsugi combined with mindful and somatic art therapy practices in this workshop are designed to help you
-Hold yourself in compassion and care
- Discover your own instruments of change
- Recognise the parts of you that need nurturing and your own personal resources for healing
-Allow you to recognise how your vulnerability can be your strength in order to heal and connect with others
- Celebrate the beauty in imperfection and healing
All art materials will be supplied except for the bowl which you will need to bring with you. Please source your own unbroken ceramic bowl. I found mine in an op shop for $4. This allows you to find one that resonates with you. I will have some spare bowl for people to purchase cheaply if they can't source their own.
This workshop is facilitated by Paige who is a qualified art therapist with a Bachelor of Arts Psychotherapy, an Advanced Diploma in Transpersonal Art Therapy and is the owner of Golden Threads Creative Therapies established in 2015, where she sees clients one on one and through the facilitation of various group art therapy workshops. Paige uses her insight, experience and studies to help empower her clients to be their own experts using creativity and artmaking to enhance well being and personal healing.
