King Olobaniyi (African Rock King) Stage Play
Come join us for an electrifying evening filled with music, drama, and culture at St Luke’s Hall Peckham. A live stage play of King Olobaniyi: The African Rock King.
This play showcases the epic story of King Olobaniyi of the Ekinrin-Adde kingdom, reigning from 1926 to 1948, was a powerful, strong, and charismatic ruler, affectionately nicknamed Ayedina, meaning the African Rock King. This nickname was earned because of his unique ability to transform into a physical rock, a power he used to protect his kingdom from external attacks and deadly invasions. His formidable strength and strategic acumen allowed him to defeat all the enemies of his kingdom, including the renowned king of the Olukotun kingdom.
King Olobaniyi was a family man with many wives, children, and siblings. However, his reign was not without challenges. He engaged in a prolonged conflict with the British colonial government over tree lumbering, which he refused to halt despite their demands. Summoned by the British to Lokoja to explain his defiance, Olobaniyi handed temporary control of the kingdom to his brother. During his absence, his brother seized the throne permanently.
Upon his return, King Olobaniyi was faced with a painful choice: to wage war against his brother or to maintain peace for the sake of the kingdom. Choosing peace over conflict, he withdrew into isolation, sacrificing his own reign for the stability of Ekinrin-Adde. Despite his isolation, King Olobaniyi remained a beloved and respected figure, remembered for his wisdom, strength, and dedication to his people. The incredible story of King Olobaniyi brought to life on stage. Get ready to be swept away by the powerful performances and Afrobeat music. Don't miss out on this unforgettable experience!
