Kindred Quilt-AlongPiecing Together Stories of Past, Present, and Community
Join us for a creative community quilting event inspired by the Virginia Yerxa Community Read Book in Common, Kindred by Octavia E. Butler.
Participants will design their own fabric square reflecting themes from the book—exploring connections between past and present and honoring family lineage, memory, and community.
No sewing experience is needed! You can stitch, draw, or decorate your square using the provided supplies. Each square will contribute to a shared community quilt that weaves together our stories.
📅 Saturday, April 4, 2026
⏰ 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
📍 Colusa County Arts Council
This is a FREE community event and all supplies will be provided. Come create, reflect, and help piece together a quilt that celebrates our interconnected stories.
Can’t attend on April 4th? No worries—you can pick up a fabric square and decorate it at home. Just make sure to complete it and bring it to the Arts Council by April 7th so it can be added to the Community Quilt.
✨ The finished Community Quilt will be on display during Virginia Yerxa Read Day as a celebration of our shared stories and creativity.
