Beautiful guided walk up Kinder Scout from Edale village. Suitable for people who want to try an intermediate-level walk at a steady conversational pace. This would be a good route to try as a first step up from beginners level.Distance: approximately 7 miles
Ascent: 500m with some steep and short easy scramble sections
Meeting time: 8:30am to set off for 8:45am
Meeting place: Edale village car park
Your guide, Sarah Lister, will take you on an impressive route for you to experience the Kinder plateau - perhaps your first time. We will see gritstone boulders curiously sculpted by wind and stunning views of the Mam Tor ridge if the conditions are clear.
Sarah lives locally and will tell you a little bit about the history and geology of the area during the walk.
This guided walk might appeal to you if you are:
slowly building up your fitness
curious about mountain walking but you don’t want to take on too much too soon
new to the area and looking to meet people
nervous about walking on Kinder Scout alone
At the end of the walk we will go to a cafe or pub for refreshments. This is optional and you will need to buy your own drinks/food.
The walk up is steep with small loose rocks underfoot and there is a very short easy scramble section. On the Plateau there are some good breaks in ascent and we will need to cross over two narrow brooks - usually shallow. There are some steep sections on the way back down to the village but these are more steady than the way up. Walking poles would be useful for this walk.
Parking information, a kit list and a weather forecast will be provided in advance of our walk together. Walking boots and waterproofs are essential. If you have any questions please email: [email protected]
Please note that this walk is for adults aged 18+ only. It is unsuitable for dogs due to livestock in the area.
