Formed in Dublin in the late 1980s, Kíla has redefined Irish music with their vibrant mix of Irish folk instruments—whistles, fiddles, Uilleann pipes, and bodhrán—combined with global rhythms like djembe, congas, and drums, and modern touches like brass and electric guitars. Their music transcends genres, blending traditional, classical, and rock backgrounds to create something truly unique.
Kíla also has a special connection to Kilkenny through their collaboration with the renowned Cartoon Saloon, the Oscar-nominated animation studio based in the city. Kíla’s enchanting compositions were key to the soundtracks of The Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea, two beloved films that have captivated audiences worldwide. Their music, much like their live performances, is filled with energy, emotion, and magic—a perfect fit for the timeless storytelling of Cartoon Saloon.
