On June 20, 2026, the Van Wert Parks Department will be hosting a FREE children’s fishing tournament for ages 3-13. The tournament will take place at the Smiley Park Pond next to Leeson Avenue from 9am-10am. We ask that each child bring their own fishing pole, tackle, and bait for the tournament. A parent, grandparent, or legal guardian must be present with the children who are participating. There will be two separate age groups (ages 3-7 & 8-13) with each group having a first place prize for the largest fish caught. Raffle prizes will also be given out after the conclusion of the fishing tournament and Van Wert Soil & Water Conservation will also be present with an exhibit and prizes. Fishing will begin right at 9am, so please arrive early to claim your fishing spot. No registration is required, just show up and join us for some fishing fun!
