Description
For ages 7-15 with accompanying adult
In this beginner-friendly class, kids will learn how to use a sewing machine safely and confidently while focusing on making a tote bag. This project introduces the core skills of garment sewing such as cutting fabric, stitching straight lines, and finishing hems.
What you’ll learn:
How to thread and operate a sewing machine with confidence
Basic sewing techniques used in fashion and accessories
How to follow simple sewing instructions and understand pattern markings
Step-by-step construction of a tote bag
Tips for choosing fabrics and adding creative touches like pockets or contrast straps
Students will build real sewing skills that can be applied later to clothing projects.
Supplies:
All materials and tools are provided!
We have five sewing machines and one serger available for participants. If you have your own machine, you’re welcome to bring it so you can learn on your own equipment.
Instructor:
Meet your instructor, Shirin Delsooz of Havah Designs—a creative entrepreneur in fashion design and a stay-at-home mom who homeschools her two children. With a background in communications and marketing, Shirin is dedicated to making fashion accessible, fun, and inspiring for everyone. She creates digital sewing patterns, produces step-by-step YouTube tutorials, and even designs 3D-printed purses, bringing a modern approach to DIY fashion.
