On Saturday, May 9 at 10:30 a.m., we will be hosting an Otsego Satellite Walk at Memorial Park in support of the National Kidney Foundation’s Detroit Kidney Walk. It will be a simple community 5K walk, and I would love for anyone from the Paramount community who is interested to join us.Many of you may not know this about me. I am currently living with Stage 4 kidney failure caused by Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). PKD is a genetic disease that causes cysts to grow in the kidneys over time and eventually leads to kidney failure. Because of where I am in the progression of the disease, I will likely need dialysis or a kidney transplant in the near future, and I am currently searching for a living donor.
What makes this even harder as a parent is that my son Landon also has Polycystic Kidney Disease. Right now, Landon is a healthy, active teenager who is focused on school, baseball, and life as a typical high school student. But PKD is progressive. Without medical breakthroughs, his future will likely include the same path I am on now, declining kidney function, dialysis, and eventually the need for a transplant.
That reality is why this walk means so much to our family. Our goal is to raise $1,000 for kidney research and patient support through the National Kidney Foundation. Supporting kidney research today could help change the future for people like Landon.
If you would like to help, there are several ways to support.
You can walk with us in Otsego on May 9 at Memorial Park. The 5K registration is $10, and we invite everyone to wear orange and white.

If you would prefer to support locally, you can also Venmo to help provide snacks and drinks for the walk or bring an item to share that day.
I have kidney flowers available for purchase for $1 each, and for every $5 donated you will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win various prizes!
Many of you have been part of my work life for a long time, and it means a lot to share this part of my life with you. This walk is one small way our family is trying to turn a difficult reality into something hopeful.
Thank you for supporting my family and the many others living with kidney disease.
