Chronic Kidney Disease Africa
My name is Alfred Kandengwa . I am living with Stage 5 kidney failure.
Today marks 4 years and 1 month since my first diagnosis.
One of the most common questions I get is:
“How did you get here?”
The truth is, kidney disease does not always arrive with loud warning signs. It can develop quietly, while you are going about your normal life. Many people are living with it right now and do not even know.
That is exactly why this page exists.
Here, you will get real, factual, and practical information about kidney disease not only from textbooks, but from lived experience. What I have gone through. What other patients have gone through. And what qualified doctors and nephrologists have confirmed through science and treatment.
We are going to break things down properly, step by step.
What to expect on this page:
• Symptoms explained in detail
Not just “you may feel tired” but why it happens, how it progresses, and what it actually feels like in real life.
• Medical and pharmaceutical treatment
We will talk about the medications used in kidney disease, what they do in the body, why they are prescribed, and how they help manage complications like high blood pressure, fluid overload, anemia, and toxin buildup.
• Lifestyle and food as medicine
Diet plays a major role in kidney health. We will go into foods that support the body, foods that can make things worse, and how small daily choices can slow progression.
• African traditional perspectives
We will also talk openly about African herbal approaches and traditional remedies. Not to replace medical care, but to understand them properly, discuss their role, their risks, and where they may or may not fit alongside clinical treatment.
• Real patient stories and experiences
Because sometimes the most powerful knowledge comes from people who are living it every single day.
This is not going to be surface-level information.
We are going deep, honest, and practical.
We will start a series of posts, breaking things down one symptom at a time, so you can recognize the signs early:
* Swelling
* Fatigue
* Changes in urine
* Shortness of breath
* And many more
Because here is the reality:
Your kidneys could be struggling right now, and you may not even know it.
But if you understand the signs, you can act early.
And early action can change everything.
This page is here to educate, to support, and to open eyes.
Hosted by me,
Alfred Kandengwa
