join us for a special edition of kickback & create, at the Met Fifth Avenue.

in this all-ages, all-abilities, phone-free creative activity, participants will transform a single large artwork into a handmade book inspired by city skylines, movement, and personal journeys.

the experience is inspired by The Magical City: George Morrison’s New York and will begin with a guided tour of the exhibition, offering time to look closely, gather inspiration, and reflect on how cities shape our inner and outer worlds.

following the tour, we’ll begin, with a playful warm-up using blind contour skyline drawings as a way to loosen up and make marks without worrying about whether the art is “good.”

from there, participants will use tissue paper shapes and markers on sturdy paper to create an abstract, city-inspired composition. once complete, the artwork is folded and cut into a small book, where each page reveals a different fragment of the original piece.

the result is a one-of-a-kind “skyline story book” that shifts as you turn the pages, much like a city itself. guests will leave with their finished book and simple techniques they can continue using at home to explore creativity in an intuitive, low-pressure way.
